As a chemistry teacher, my eyes sparkle when I catch sight of my students’ sparkling eyes in class. This usually takes place when I manage to hit on a connection with them. Showing them the empathy whenever they hit the bumpy road in their learning of chemistry and rejoicing with them when they manage to make their connection to appreciate the beauty of chemistry in their lives. From Frans de Waal’s TED talk: Moral Behaviour in Animals, I learn that humans and animals alike, we all demonstrate empathy, fairness, cooperation and reciprocity in our interaction with one another. That probably explains why I always look forward to sparkling eyes in class. My eyes will sparkle too!
I hope to gather sparkling resources and articles that make that connection with people who love chemistry, especially the beauty of applying chemistry to where we live, what we do and why we do it!
